Week 7: Interview Preparation
13th of October, 2021
What did you do this week and what are your concerns?
This week, I have been focusing on preparation for the interviews. I have created an interview script that is about 30 minutes to have a guide for me during the interviews. This interview would be an important process for me to get to know my target audience, but also to understand their exact emotions, pain points and their definition of safety.
Below are some of the questions that I am planning to ask.
Below are some of the questions that I am planning to ask.
Background
- Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
- What does your typical day look like?
- How often do you walk in the streets?
- What makes you enjoy walking?
- How often do you normally walk alone?
Understanding My Target Audience
- What is the reason that you feel (less) confident walking alone?
- What do you do to make you feel confident/safe?
- What are the things that you consider when deciding to walk specific streets?
- Have you had any negative experiences when walking in the streets?- What happened?- How did you feel when you were going through or saw that experience?- Does that influence your overall walking experience?
Define Safety
- What are the things that make you feel unsafe when walking in the streets?
- How do you define safety?
- What makes you feel safe?
- What is the most important thing that you consider when walking in the streets?

These are the questions that I am planning to ask during the interview. I have planned several interviews with the respondent to my questionnaire a few weeks ago. I am going to talk to people who have been marked as who feel safe/confident, and people who are not.
As I was writing the interview script, I was a bit worried if my questions are enough or would be able to lead respondents to talk about their personal stories. I am a bit concerned if my questions are detailed to help me find a definition of safety when walking in the streets. As I start interviewing with my respondents, I am hoping to figure this out and iterate my interview guide if needed.
