IDEATION

Cluster Map

To brainstorm, we have chosen to create a cluster map where we have categorized and put all the ideas that are related to our broad topic. This would help us to narrow down into a certain area where we want to focus our project on.

CheckIn ConceptMap

Concept Map

In order to narrow down and go deeper with a specific area, we created a concept map to dive into the influences that commerce and essential workers have. We have also included our possible product to see how we can try to link the influences into our opportunities that we need to consider.

Ecosystem Map

We created an Ecosystem Map to help us see the systematic relationship from branch manager to co-workers to others. This would also help us to overview the whole connection that could be influenced by COVID-19 when someone has the symptoms.

Stock and Flow

The stock and flow diagram demonstrates the understanding of how CoronaVirus could be spreaded based on physical contacts and how it could be triggered by customers. We have associated them with demand for groceries, which differs the amount of fear that the customers would have to make.

Feedback Loop

To see the whole cycle of the fear of COVID-19 from both sides of customers and the essential workers, we have used a feedback loop diagram to illustrate them.

What are the Scenarios?

1st Storyboard: Self Diagnosis

Storytelling the main feature of doing daily Check-in of filling in their self diagnosis.
The data from workers are viewable from the branch manager.

CheckIn Storyboard 1

2nd Storyboard: Request Replacement Shifts

Branch Managers can send a person who doesn’t feel well on sick leave. They can also ask other branch managers to fill in the empty shift.

CheckIn Storyboard 2

3rd Storyboard: Availability from other branches

If the store closed down due to COVID-19 cases or any other reasons, the branch managers could still provide help to the essential workers by sending them to available shifts in different branch stores.

Taxonomy Map

In order to get a sense of the overall main features, we have created a taxonomy map within 3 categories branch manager, essential workers and possible workers who are not affiliated with any branches yet.

Information Architecture

We have used Information Architecture to organize and define the real details that would be contained in the application. The architecture is divided with 3 different workflows and it would show the information based on what each flow needs.

DESIGN

What Impression are we trying to deliver?

For the visuals and brandings, we wanted our application to feel as trustworthy for the users. Since the app contains the topic of COVID-19 pandemic that we are in, we still aim to maintain the deliberation throughout the application. However, we didn’t want Check-in to feel too heavy, but rather, dependable and approachable.

REFLECTION

For 5 weeks working on Check-in, it was definitely one of the most valuable times that I have spent on. Check-in was my first project where I worked as a team and used system thinking while we developed our product. I cannot say that this experience was an easy one, however, I can assure you that this project was the first one that I strongly felt proud of how far we came as a team.

I realized that having an understanding of systems and being able to put them in maps and diagrams is crucial. This gives us a chance to see and organize a complicated system for ourselves, but also, for stakeholders who do not have enough knowledge of our product yet. In a way, it was quite challenging to get used to creating our ideas into a diagram, however, it was definitely an important skill that we were able to learn.

Working as a team was also another skill that I was able to learn. I realized that communication plays a huge role when working as a team. We have to be able to understand and respect each other's opinions in order to create one whole product outcome. Whenever there were conflicts between my team, we always tried to explain the reason behind our thoughts and decide which idea would fit the best for our product.

If we had more time, I would want to do some interviews with the actual frontline grocery workers and the branch managers to get their real feedback on our possible solutions. This would help us to know how realistic Check-in could be, but also, build a stronger connection between our product and our target audience. Furthermore, we would also like to communicate with the stakeholders from the grocery stores, which would help us to understand how each company works differently.
